Rina Keshen, a retired advertising account executive from Weston, began gaining weight after her first child. Three children later, she'd gained 140 pounds weighing 260 pounds—a staggering amount for a 5-foot 4-inch woman. "I tried everything," she explains. "Ten years ago I underwent a procedure called vertical banded gastroplasty, which was unsuccessful. Understandably, I was leery of gastric bypass surgery. It was a difficult decision to make, but I’d heard from friends how wonderful Dr. Samuels is. I felt really comfortable with him and his entire staff—they’re like a family."
Eleven months following the procedure, Rina had lost an amazing 120 pounds. "It was sheer determination," she says. "I went to the gym regularly, followed the diet closely, and attended the support group meetings. I went by the book and got great results."
Rina then went to Dr. Mark Schreiber, a plastic surgeon specializing in bariatric surgery patients. "I wore my first bikini in years thanks to Dr. Samuels and my plastic surgeon," she says. "It’s been a long journey, and those doctors saved my life."
