The Weight Had to Go
Martha Naves

Before

After

"I was on my vacation at Disney World with my family, and I just couldn't keep up," remembers Martha Naves. "I knew that I had to do something for myself and my family so that we could live a normal life."

In 2000, Martha Naves decided it was time to make a change in her lifestyle and had a gastric bypass surgery. It was a big decision that would affect the rest of her life, but she knew that something had to change. And change it did.

"After the surgery, I lost 50 pounds in the first 3 months," explains Martha. "Over the last 3 years, I've lost a total of 182 pounds, going from a size 32 to a size 0 or 2. I can’t believe how much better I feel." Martha had tried other ways to lose weight, but nothing worked. After talking to Norman Samuels, M.D., medical director of the Surgical Obesity Program at Plantation General Hospital, and understanding the lifestyle choices she would have to make, she was confident that this procedure was right for her.

"Now I can be active and can keep up with my son," says Martha. "This surgery changed my life, and I would recommend it to anyone who has tried to lose weight and failed. There's a whole world waiting, and this procedure gave me the ability to take advantage of it."
